Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

JUNE 8th MOVING NORTH IN UTAH to LAYTON

On Thursday before leaving Richfield UT, we went to lunch at the Senior Center to visit with some new friends.  The lady on the left is a sister to Clyde Jorgenson (now deceased) former businessman in Richfield.  She was interviewed along with two nieces and a nephew about those businesses and their childhood.  It was aired on a local station on a show called Southern Utah Stories.  It was very interesting and I recognized her when we walked into the Senior Center.  The children still own the businesses that now employ at least 100 people.  The father started with a Western Auto many years ago and when the area became interested in ATV and cycles he bought and started a Honda Dealership and later a Ford Dealership.  It is a good backbone for the area.  We love these local shows!!

On Monday the 8th we began our trip north to settle at Layton UT for the month.  More beautiful scenery which includes lakes and communities in the valleys and on the hillsides as well.

Passed the new LDS Temple in Payson again, no water sprinklers this time.  It was a good thing that we were not traveling on Saturday and Sunday up this stretch of I-15 as they really had crowds for the dedication events for this.  They said on the news that there were more than 500K at the events on Saturday alone!

Still snow in the mountains, especially closer to Salt Lake City and on north or there.

On Wednesday we drove out and about the Layton and Ogden area.  Had to find a Walmart for my script and a church.  We also checked out a Savers Thrift store and the North Davis County Senior Center. It sure is the Cadillac of Senior Centers.  But since they want a three page information agreement to eat at their center and take their activity tours, we decided that we don't want to share all of our information so will not bother.  We can find other things to do. But it sure was nice and had a nice computer and library room.

We went on into Ogden to the Union Station - Utah State Railroad Museum at the end of one of their Historical Streets. Lovely area.
The station included several museums and a gallery.  I can imagine that it was a very busy station in it's day!!

The Cowboy Museum --

which included these 1890 ladies black dress high-top shoes, usually used for attending church.  I can't imagine any one with this small/narrow of a foot!!

Then on into the Railroad Museum with several model trains running around in the building.

And Gary wanted me to step on the floor scales.  Ha-ha!

Then we saw the Browning-Kimball Car Museum.  Just a portion of Browning's autos were donated to this museum from his estate.

This car was used in several movies.

After that Gary went on upstairs to the John M Browning Firearms Museum. He was known as America's Gunmaker.

I checked out the Skiers display and then waited for Gary in the station lobby.
Then Gary checked out the trains in the yard also.

We will take a trip back south on Thursday into Salt Lake City so that Gary can check out the LDS Research Center for his genealogy research. Check back.
