Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LAST DAYS DRIVE ABOUT VICKSBURG MISSISSIPPI

It was Saturday and this was to be the last day of touring about Vicksburg.  So we decided to take those replacement pictures for the ones that I mistakenly deleted.  Mission accomplished and they have been dropped in the previous days Blogs.

But now we will take you one last time about the city.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
with very attractive slate roof and steeple. (circa 1869)
Driving through one of the original main
shopping streets downtown, still a busy area.

Continuing down the main
shopping street with many restored buildings.

Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the first in
Mississippi celebrating their 150th anniversary this week.

National Biscuit Company, a century old building
now housing Monsour's,
 a second generation family restaurant.

Just  a log with flowers and ground cover,
on the Old Court House lawn.
I would love to have a home with this accent!!

The Gov. McNutt House that was to be open for touring,
NOT!
Second oldest structure in Historic Downtown
circa 1826

Crepe Myrtle in full bloom now.
Resembles our Lilacs grown in the north, but I believe they
appear to grow much taller.

And then there is the Riverfront Wall of Murals located on the floodwall of the Levee. There are 32 life-like murals depicting history from the earliest Native American period to the present and one abstract mural by a Vicksburg artist, Martha Ferris.

Just to show you a few of them.  We have sure enjoyed the history, but only saw a fraction of it probably.  We saved some for another visit!!

And we are now preparing to move on to Little Rock, Arkansas.  Hope that you are enjoying your summer also.  God Bless and take care!!
