Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

SAUGATAUK, MI and MEETING WITH GARY'S NIECE, SANDRA

Well, we did not have enough time to go see the Icebreakers Museum, that being the ships that broke up the ice on the Great Lakes after a long winter. Maybe next time through here.
Saturday, July 14th, we arrived at our new campground, Grand Haven Resort just in time for Christmas in July. It used to be a Yogi Bear Park and is full of trees! We were ready to sit back and relax and watch the people go by. They had a horse drawn wagon for their events. I got to watch at the computer, looking out the front window. I think that there was a Santa later, but I missed seeing him.

On Sunday we attended Lake Shore Baptist in Grand Haven and then went to Applebee's after church. Then we loafed the rest of the day.
On Monday we drove to Saugatauk, Michigan and their Marina. It is quite the Artsy Town and we enjoyed the walk and drive around as well as lunch there.  On our walk Gary got to meet and talk with a water color artist in his shop.  Gary enjoyed that! Then we walked on to the Boardwalk at the Marina for lunch.

I got to take pictures of the bay from our dining table on the deck. I just love watching the boats!

Tuesday was our day to meet up with Gary's niece and husband, Sandra and Mark. We met them for lunch out in the country at Turk's. We got there just about the end of the lunch crowd, as you can see.

Hope we weren't the reason it emptied out!!

We sure enjoyed the visit and were so glad that Sandra could have some of her day off to herself.  She is mortician and manager fora home near here. That was the reason for their move from Toledo area.
They had five families to set up for the week so she got many calls from her girls who were to work her day off. She sure did not have time to herself. After a very good lunch and an awesome visit, we followed them out to their new home. It is a fixer-upper but has a lot of promise and is on a four acre lot.  They tore a lot of stuff out and hope to be finished enough to move in in three weeks.  It is a good thing that Mark is retired!
The kitchen and hall floor was being grouted while we were there, and the kitchen is to be installed next. Sandra has been painting, painting, painting. It is looking nice and has promising hardwood floors. So glad that we got to see it. It put us in mind of our house on Goshen and Victor's house that he just sold last fall.

Wednesday was our day to go to the famous Gilmore Car Museum. Gary's had his heart set on seeing this!! We took so many pictures that I will do it up in a separate Blog.
We also keep stopping at Thrift and Antique Shops.  Never a dull moment!
