Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

TRIP EAST IN ARIZONA, TONTO NATIONAL MONUMENT and ROOSEVELT LAKE

Saturday's trip with Tim and Judy, going east on Rt. 60 and continuing on north on Rt 188 included so much beautiful scenery.  There were a couple good pull-offs to our benefit. Enjoy!!

Yep, we just came through that tunnel.

Many good climbing  walls! And many make use of them.

There is copper mining in this area, and maybe other
mines as well.

Mining!

Quite twisted saguaro. Wonder the age
of this one. They are a protected species.
We arrived for the tour of the monument, but I found that it was too much of a climb for me, so I stopped half way up and waited at this bench. I've made this tour before, so I really did not need to do it again. I think that my knees are becoming a problem.  I hate to think of it.  Gary is in much the same condition, but he made the full climb.
I was later joined by a park ranger who was doing surveys of people coming and going. She was enjoyable. She's begun this work camping mode just six months ago when she started out in her motorhome. From here she will be going for a month at the Outer Banks, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse before she returns to Michigan for her son's wedding festivities. I told her that she has made a good choice of post retirement. She just retired from GM after forty years.
July walking the path up to the cliff dwellings,
the Tonto National Monument with. Roosevelt Lake
in the background. It is quite a long lake.

When we finished we decided that it was past time for lunch so we went up along more of Lake Roosevelt to a mom and pop restaurant. It was good food and we enjoyed the rest and the scenery.

Heading back to SunLife, we dropped Tim and Judy at their home.
I am sure that they were as much in need of rest as we were??
SUNDAY will be our usual Calvary Baptist Church with our friends and lunch out, probably at Red Mountain Cafe'. We also had to say our goodbyes to our other friends as it was our last Sunday there. We will be moving on next Saturday.
