Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LAST WEEK IN HOLT, FLORIDA

We are down to our last week here in Holt.  On Tuesday, February 9th, we met with friends,
Lana and Howard, at McGuires Irish Pub in Pensacola, It is one of our favorite restaurants. Howard knew that the special for Tuesday was meat loaf and I thought ho-hum. Well guess what, it was very delicious! I would go out of my way for their meatloaf any day! Huge servings, as well. Mine lasted me for three meals. Thanks Lana and Howard for thinking of this and taking the time. It was Howard's lunch hour. We then finished running our errands while in Pensacola and headed for home.

Thursday the 11th, was a wonderful day for warm temps and sun shine. So we decided that it was our last chance to go to the beach, and off we went. We stopped in Crestview at Walgreen to pick up photos that I had ordered for scrapbooking.  Then on to Destin and Henderson Beach State Park. The waters were choppy, but the sun made it wonderful walking the beach!!

On the way home we happened to run across a Mountain Yogurt! I have had a $5 gift card in my pocket for probably three years or more, so we stopped.  Glad that we did, it was very good.  I think that we had received the card from a church that we visited, but not sure where or when. Thanks to whatever church or person who gave it to us!
I have also had two good days of scrapbooking and made a lot of headway!! Always a good feeling of satisfaction. It is always a chore to dig all of the stuff out and then put it away again. But I guess I might be getting better at it. I have hunted for a lettering cartridge for my Cricut that I could order on line. I think that I found what I wanted, but it seems they are all out of stock. I will keep looking as I need to make use of the $50 that I spent on the Cricut!
Our last Sunday was a good time for goodbyes at church. Only three couples went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse afterward, but got to visit with them more easily.
Our plans were to leave on Wednesday and stop for two nights in Tallahassee so that we could see the antique auto museum and to go to dinner with my Ohio girlfriend's son, Brian. Once before we had planned this and had to go on past as we were hesitant to traveling the city streets with the motor home while towing the car on a dolly. But Gary had more pieces break off a tooth, so he had to call Bushnell and get a dentist appointment as soon as possible. Ended up that we could still leave on Wednesday as planned, but we had to be in Bushnell the next day for the appointment. Ah-h-h, hate to cancel on Brian again, so we made a spur of the moment decision and got in the car and drove to Tallahassee that day, picked him up and had dinner at Applebee's.

We had a great visit and realized that it probably has been about fourteen years since we had last seen him, at his graduation party. So glad that we got to visit and will hope to do it again when we come through here!
We were hesitant to drive back that same evening but knew that we would gain an hour, so started out. We knew that we were headed into area where there were tornado warnings (as we had left those behind when we started out. But we figured that they would be all through by then. We did run into some strong winds after about an hour on the road going home and were not sure if we should stop and sit it out, or what? After a stop we decided to move from I-10 to SR 90.  The road was much better marked and easier to see.  So we did make it, but just a little slower. And the rain and wind did finally let up.
Today we went in to Milton for my last TOPS meeting for a while, and then on to Pensacola to pick up our mail one last time.  We probably won't get mail again until we get south to Wachulla in a couple weeks. So all errands finished, we came home to finish packing up. We hope to start out early tomorrow as it will be a six hour trip.
Take care and God Bless.
