Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LONG WEEKEND TO CELEBRATE FIFTY YEARS OF HISTORY!!

One of the events planned for the summer, long before we traveled back to Ohio, was Gary's 50th Class Reunion.  We participated in more of this weekend fun than we have ever done at reunions in the past.  Needless to say, we had a wonderful weekend.
Salem High Class of 1963
We began with lunch at B.B.Rooners on Saturday.  Although Danny, owner of B.B.Rooners and classmate from 1963, really did not feel much like an outing, he did get out of bed to grace us with his presence. It was good to see him doing so well following a heart attack and open heart surgery just three weeks before.
Danny Engle, owner of B.B.Rooners

Elaine Enders Reiter
Elaine was presented with a gift handmade by classmate, Rudy Hrovatic, for her many hours of service to the class events.  Too bad you can not see the other side of the birdhouse as it was all very nice!!  He even had a 1963 Ohio license plate for the roof!!  Elaine many thanks for all of the party event ideas and plans!!
Check out some who were there. . . .

Then some went to classmate, Chuck Rhurtan's, to see his wonderful outdoor train display.  We did not go to that as Gary wants to go sometime when he can take our grandson with him.
Next was the actual main event, dinner and dance, at the Salem Golf Club.  We enjoyed the fellowship most of all, but as you can see some enjoyed the dancing as well, including our special classmate 'Az'.  Az was the foreign exchange student from Japan in '62-'63.  I do believe that I heard last weekend that he and his wife actually came from Germany for this event, for he is now working there.

While some danced, others reminisced and still others watched!

Our table with Connie, Maria, Fran and Gary, classmates with spouses.
Fourth Grade Class from Fourth Street School

There was a display of group pictures from earlier grades.  Can you find Gary in this Fourth grade picture?  There was also a collage of classmates who have passed away so that we could remember them as well.  Elaine again was the planner for this reminiscing.  Thanks Elaine!!
Gary is the last one on the right side in the third row.  It was easy for me to pick him out as our oldest son looked a lot like him in this picture when he was young.

We opted to not attend the picnic at the Null's on Friday night because of another outing we had planned.  And we missed the Sunday brunch at Naragon's because of church and lunch with our son, Victor.
But there was still one more event on the agenda for the weekend, a concert at Waterworth Memorial Park. . . . . though this is a normal music event for Salem's Sunday evenings.
A band from Cleveland, Ohio, calling themselves SHOUT!
Bob Sebo, who's contribution made this band presentation possible!

Class of '63 dancing on the grass!!
An unidentified couple enjoying a much slower number.

Hope that you could figure out who all was there if you are from the Class of 1963!!  It is a nice time to visit with old friends and to see what "others" are doing and how much they have changed.  Take care until next time!!  God Bless you all!!

Check out some more events in our next Blog before we begin our travels again.
