Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LAST WEEK AT COARSEGOLD, CA

When we get down to our last week before moving on, we usually spend the week packing things away slowly (my scrapbooking takes a couple days to sort and put away properly) and to do laundry and get in the groceries needed for the trip. This week was no exception. However, Gary did take the time to go to a local annual Rodeo to take some pictures with the hopes of using them for drawings. He also had a few photos e-mailed to him by a new friend, David. David was our Sunday School teacher at Mountain Christian Center who took the time to stop by the motorhome for a visit one Sunday afternoon. So he got to see Gary's art first hand. Here are two of the last few drawings that Gary has finished. So you can see that he has been able to stay busy. Remember in the last Blog when we met the couple in Sequoia National Park, who told us that they were headed to Sugar Pine Christian Camp to volunteer time at the camp in exchange for camping hook-up? Well, coincidence or not, the following week the Camp had an ad in the local newspaper for a full time employee. Out of curiosity, we decided to take a few hours to drive up and look at the camp to see what it is like and to find out what Christian affiliation it has. We found it to be a very nice camp in a beautiful setting!! We did get to talk with a few people there and to take some pictures. They were getting ready for a group of about 110 to come in that weekend for a father/son retreat. They keep busy with groups making reservations, with anywhere from 300 to only 20 people attending. They have a small lake for fishing as well as an in-ground swimming pool and many hiking trails. I would imagine that there is cross country skiing also, since they often get snowed in. The elevation here was somewhere between 4000 and 5000 feet. This is the main building used for a chapel. Beautiful camp, eh?? I had to show you the pine cones that I have collected in this area. The large one beside my geranium is from the Sugar pines and the little ones are from the giant Sequoia redwoods. Believe it or not!! The redwood cones sure drop a lot of seeds. I wonder how many take root. These are the rodeo pictures...
The next time you hear from us, we should be on the road, headed north. Stay tuned!
