Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

STAGECOACH DAZE & PARK SIERRA

The Escapee Park that we are in is very nice, with blacktopped roads, outstanding views and very nice people. Most of the lots are owned by the residents for as long as they want to stay. They pay a small annual fee and get their initial investment returned when they decide to leave or it goes to their estate. It is a no loss situation!! Because of this, they hold an annual fund raiser to benefit them in other ways, for the clubhouse activities, supplies, etc. We happened to arrive five days before the Stagecoach Daze began. So we took part in as much of it as we were interested in and had three meals with the residents, as well. It was a fun four days. These 3-D murals were painted by one of the permanent residents and will be a permanent part of the decor for future Stagecoach Daze. This is one of the lovely lots in the park!! Jeni and Phil here were across the table from us for the last dinner and the entertainment for the evening. They were a lot of fun! Jeni was the Silent Auction chair person. Too bad we could not use our winning personalities to have our tickets drawn for the beautiful quilt or the Santa music box. They were awesome!! This woman at the next table won the 50/50 drawing the last evening. She was very happy!!
This lady, one of the park assistant managers, won the Santa. She was thrilled!!
Here are pictures of the tables for dinner before everyone had arrived, taken from the stairs to the second floor balcony. It was a full house every dinner.
This Magician and his wife entertained after one evening's dinner.
A golf cart in the parking lot!! Did I say golf cart?
There were a couple young children in the park visiting grandparents for these special days. Gary caught up with this one while he was doing time in jail. Not sure what the offense was, though!
The tables with the silent auction items.
And the only day time event that we attended was the actual auction that everyone donated items for. They really took advantage of this event to clean out their storage sheds, since they have this event each year. Every lot has a storage shed and they are all alike and the same color. So this adds to the appearance of the park.
Gary got a pair of in-line roller skates for $2, I got a Camping World table for the steering wheel in the motorhome for $5 and I also got a NICE burgundy office chair for doing my scrapbooking for $8 and a basket for a few magazines for $2. So we felt that we really got our money's worth. Not that we really needed any of it!! Now I just have to find four items to get rid of. You know for the buy something new/get rid of something old concept!! I just have not decided what to get rid of.
This was our auctioneer and his helper in the flamingo hat. Debbie, if it had gone up for sale I would have bought it for you!! I know that you could die to have it!! And the other helper demonstrated the bathroom throne that was for sale!
There were many, many good items! And of course some junk!
The last evening, after the roast pork dinner, we were entertained by The Yosemite Jazz Band. They were really good and it was over before we were ready to quit!!
But the event went well and we enjoyed it all. They had a Casino night, but we did not attend that. Bingo is as far as we have gone since we got here.
Now it is time to get busy and do some other sight seeing. So check back in a day or two, and take care.
