Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

HOME IN THE SIERRAS of CALIFORNIA

We are home at the lower end of Park Sierra which is a gated Escapee Park. Being at the lower end gives us the best view of the valley and across that to the next mountain top view of Hotel and Casino. Actually it is a beautiful view and we hear the water rushing over the rocks below us all of the time. Today it was warm enough to sit out in my short sleeve shirt to read, which is one of my favorite things to do.
Until they came though and cut the grass, we could look out the door and watch these birds. We don't know what kind they are, but it did not bother them to be close to our home.
Tuesday we went down the highway to Fresno to find a Walmart, Home Depot and Harbor Freight. You see, I had drug the electrical wiring a few miles when I followed Gary in the Jeep, pulling the dolly. Gary was driving the motor home to the gas station to fill up before beginning our journey from Redlands CA to Coursegold CA. Gary did not mention that he had left the wires across the car, so I did not know to move them inside and they drug on the pavement. Only a few miles, but it was long enough to damage them. Thus, one of the reasons that we needed to drive into Fresno. Sounds like a good excuse to me! But that thirty-five miles one way is the closest stores of any size. There are grocery stores much closer, but the prices are much higher. After paying $2.99 for a green pepper, I decided we needed to go elsewhere and stock up! While traveling in Fresno this Citron passed us by and left us in his dust. Ha-ha. We decided to follow him and get a picture. Better yet, we decided to also go into Burger King and eat lunch while there to take the picture. Not uncommon for us, we struck up a conversation and had a very enjoyable time hearing about their adventures as well as how he made a deal to import this car from an individual in France. They still have the French plates on it. --- It is so much fun!!
Below are pictures of some of the scenery south of us, between here and Fresno. It is beautiful and so green. Someone at dinner tonight said that is because they have had so much rain this year. All we have had since arriving is one night of snow and it was gone in a day!! But I am not complaining!!

While in Oakhurst which is thirteen miles up the highway from us, I took these next scenery pictures also. It was a little cloudy that day as you can see from the dark shadows. But beautiful just the same.

We went in to Oakhurst to find a church to attend our first Sunday here. We stopped in at Mountain Christian Center and found it to our liking. Had a good message and good fellowship with a Seniors Sunday School Class. It seems so funny to always be called a Seniors Class. But we have run into that more often than not!!
We were invited to their Senior's Pot Luck lunch on Tuesday and we decided to take them up on it. Had a great time and more good fellowship, with an invitation for Gary to meet the men for their usual Thursday morning coffee at McDonalds.
In the mean time I have kept busy with my scrap booking and some reading daily. I feel that I am really making progress with the scrapbooking, and that is good! I will soon need to get more photos copied but may have to wait to do that in Portland in mid May.
While I keep busy with my hobbies, Gary has been keeping busy with his colored pencil drawings, as you can see. Keeps him out of trouble, eh?

This week has been the annual Stagecoach Daze here in the park. It is one of their major fund raisers to help with extra interests of the park's lot owners. So we decided to participate for the fun and food! Our first dinner was Chili night along with some skits.
They were pretty good! And you can see that it was a popular event. Everyone was out in their golf carts! Most of them have one because of the uphill roads. At least the roads are all black topped though.
Tonight is the Italian dinner night along with a Magician Show. So you can see that we are not doing too well with our diets! At least, not this week. Tomorrow night is another dinner and a silent auction, along with an auction where the park members sell their excess baggage! It will be interesting to see what comes up on the auction block!
But in the name of fun, we are enjoying it.
We do have plans to go see the Sequoias and also Yosemite. We will share those pictures as that time arrives. Our time will pass quickly, I'm sure!! But we are looking forward to Oregon also.
