Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LAST WEEK IN ALAMOGORDO NM

There is much to see and enjoy in New Mexico and cousins, Mildred and Zollie were naming off things to do up to our very last visit. During the last week we took a few more trips. Taking a road to leave the valley we crossed the cattle gate to head into the hills to go to Oliver Lee's State Park to see his old homestead and hear controversial stories of his life in the area, only to find that the home was closed to visits that day because of the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. But we spent the time enjoying walking through the hills checking out the native plants and cacti. Needless to say, I did not journey as far down the hillside as Gary did!! But we did take a lot of pictures, especially of the cacti. We also took Mildred and Zollie to dinner one evening at Pepper's Grill and what scrumptious food and desserts!!! We had an enjoyable evening, as usuall! Wish we had time to go back again!! Another cold day following Thanksgiving we drove up into the mountains to Cloudcroft NM to see the Sunspot Observatory, The Apache Observatory and to look out over the valley. It was pretty cold that day and Zollie was reluctant to leave his dogs unattended. So we went by ourselves.
There was not as much to Apache Observatory, but we made the trip up that road also.
On the start of our journey back down we stopped to watch a group of at least eight to ten deer meandering across the road. Before I could get any good clear pictures, an SUV passed us on a hurry to who knows what!! And needless to say the deer scattered.
Our stay in Alamogordo is coming to a close since we planned to leave Monday morning. So we spent our last sunday attending our cousin's church again, Grace United Methodist,
and ended with dinner at their home one last time. Of course, our visits always include much reminising and story telling of days gone by. Mildred has many pictures to show also. She and Gary were filling in gaps in genealogy of more recent years, with promises to get more information to her also.
Monday began with a stop at the gas station where Mildred caught up with us for a final goodbye and to bring Gary a book that she had missed giving to him.
From there we journeyed through the Sacremento mountains and the Organ Mountains again to pass on into the last of the New Mexico terrain.
Not long after crossing the border into Arizona and passing close to the Texas and Mexico borders, we had to go through the Border Patrol checkpoint. Not much to it for us, but interesting to watch others.
As we traveled on through Arizona, we enjoyed the scenery.
Does this remind you of the old western movies?? We have now arrived at our new home location!! We did not know what to expect after the desert scenery, But it is like a city within a city! We are in Mesa Regal Resort which is a community for 55 and over and has 2000 lots. There is one resort right after another in Mesa!!
We passed the check-in gate and went on to the office for registration. What a fancy place!
This is the office complex and the activity Halls. All of the streets are lined with grapefruit trees (one at each lot) and many palms and cactus. We will soon be startng our Workamping for free rent and electric. We are hoping that this will enable us to save for trips to fly home sometime as we do not plan to drive the motorhome across country each time we want to go back.
Take care and stay tuned. More to come.
