Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

VIRGINIA BEACH AND YORKTOWN

Just over the bridge and we were heading into Virginia Beach on Wednesday. I was looking forward to it, as the ocean is my first love when it comes to places to go! On the way Victor got busy with e-mails for computer orders for work, so we ended up waiting in the parking lot for a while for him to finish enough to leave it. But all was not lost as the gal at the parking lot was giving us ideas of places to go and things to see. Of course, the first thing I had to do was get wet!! The waves were stronger than those we had been in before. The tide was coming in!! While sitting on the beach eating our lunch, we were watching the Rudee Flipper and wondering what their attraction was. Finally a little girl on the beach noticed the dolphins!! I wish I was out there on the boat too! We've not gone whale or dolphin watching. That is a must do! The beach wasn't overly crowded, so it was enjoyable. And we did walk for a while,
and watched the boats!
Then on Thursday we went on the Yorktown's Victory Center to see the museum about the American Revolution. Of course, the history is interesting. I can't understand why I did not enjoy it while in school. But I won't say that I retain a lot of data, even now!! Gary is the one who remembers it all!!
They had an encampment set up behind the museum and we were just on time for a demonstration of the brass cannon!
There also was a few buildings called the "Farm", depicting life in the country at the time of the Revolution.
After we left the Victory center, we went to Water Street in Yorktown to go to the Yorktown Pub for dinner. This was one of the suggestions from the gal at the parking lot. We found Yorktown to look interesting and will probably go back there as well as on to Williamsburg!
By Water Street which ran along the river, there was a nice park with a white sand beach and swimming. Not a large beach, but enough to be pleasant. This sailing ship was moored there, so Gary got a picture. He is fascinated with the sailing vessels and I wouldn't be surprised if he might draw some.
On our trip back over the James River on the ferry we were parked much farther back on the ferry. So it took much longer to get our turn the leave drive off. You can see the string of cars going up the hill after crossing the bridge from the ferry. There were a lot of cars with moms and little kids. It must have been a school trip, but they were running everywhere. No one stays in their cars much on these crossings!
Two more days of the week are past! Just one more to find something fun and interesting to do before Victor leaves us. Hopefully, the work does not interfere with our last day! We'll see!!
Stay with us!
