Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT in VIRGINIA

Just before we left Hardeeville Campground they were harvesting trees to clear out the heavy woods on two sides of the campground. It sure stirred up the flies. I had so much trouble with bites and couldn't wait to get out of there!!
They even came in to the campground and took a few trees out. So we moved our motorhome for the last night rather than have a mishap!
I even got a picture of one permanent site that has built a LARGE screened room on to the side of their fifth wheel. They have moved back in to the area from Texas and plan to stay here since semi retirement. He seems to find construction work where ever they are. The addition is 16 x 30 feet and they have screened fine enough to avoid the sand flees! Those are a real nuisance, so I can appreciate this!
We then moved into North Carolina for two nights and on to a campground in rural Windsor VA. It again is very wooded!! Not the part where we are located, thank goodness, or we would have had to find another camp round. We don't like the mess that we get on the motorhome from too many trees. We have learned the hard way!!
My geranium had to be brought in to the shower to ride during our move. If I keep it watered enough, I sure have the blooms on it. I would love to have a pot of mixed flowers, but it would be too much nuisance to move it all of the time.
The campground where we stayed for two nights in Wilson NC was smaller and clean, but also had animals on two sides of the grounds. They also had a bicycler in over a few nights with his tent. We passed the fellow on the highway when we went in to Rocky Mount to shop. We've got to hand it to him for being out there all alone! That has to be hard work!!
We arrived in the new campground where we will be staying for a month last Friday and got all set up. That job sure wiped us out this time! Not sure why. But now we were ready for our oldest son, Victor to arrive. He got here about 4:30 on Saturday after driving all day and will be with us for a week.
Yesterday we took the ferry across the river to go to the Jamestown Settlement and we spent the day there.
It was nice, but I think that I enjoyed the ferry ride the most! It sure makes a quicker trip over there than going by highway. We will be going over again to see Yorktown and Williamsburg before the month is over. Going through the settlement the first structures that we went though were the Indians longhouses. They were really quite large and amazing to me.
Then we went through the buildings that were built by the English settlers,
including the church.
Gary was real proud of this picture! His timing was good! The man was firing a black powder musket.
From this we went to the river front to check out the replica ships that the English used coming to the new land expecting to find rubies on the beach! Imagine their dismay to find nothing but Indians and wilderness!
We ate lunch in their Cafe' and then went through the museum before leaving. We then went back to the ferry and home!
We were going to the beach today, but it is threatening rain so we are not sure what we will do. Check in with us again and find out! Take care and God Bless you all.
