Last week they had Rocky and the Rollers
for a show here in the park. We saw them last year and liked them well enough to go again. They play a lot of the 60's and 70's music and the dance floor was full all of the time
. I wish I could have taken a picture of one of the women who danced, so-o-o fast. But my camera couldn't catch it because of the motion. I can't believe that she does not have back trouble!
Then another show this week, I heard was a good one, but we missed it. We were just too lazy to go out. It was a young blind woman who sang country and gospel while playing different instruments. She also sang the background parts that were pre-recorded. They said that her talent was a major part of her life and was noticeable as an infant as she made sounds when her father played the piano and hit a wrong note. When he noticed it, he began doing it on purpose to test her. I so wish that we had not missed the show. Hopefully we will see her at some other park on our travels.
Tuesday was a nice sunny day so we decided to go to Gainesville to visit my family's friend, known to us all of our lives. She is in assisted living and had a very bad year last year because of a fall and broken hip with three surgeries. We were pleased to find Blanche doing much better and still getting out some
. Her granddaughter, Mary, was visiting that day and is to begin training to work there also. I had never met the granddaughter, so it was a treat for me also to catch up on some family history. We only had a half hour to visit before she had to go for physical therapy, so I told her that I would be back. It was easy enough to locate the place, so I might even make the trip by myself.
Then last evening we drove south of here to Ellenton FL (an hour and forty-five minutes away) to eat at a Roaring 20's Pizza and Pipes restaurant
. We took Ohio friends, Don and Lois from here in the park, with us
. We were very pleasantly surprised with the entertainment! They had been there before so they showed us the ropes. We had no idea what to expect! We got there at 4 pm, about a half hour before the doors opened, and there were probably twenty in front of us and fifty behind us. The line was continuous until half time break at about 7 pm when we finally left. We probably over stayed our welcome, but we wanted to enjoy as much as we could. It was amazing and beautiful music!!
The Wurlitzer organ with four key boards and many sounds around the room from pipes, drums, cymbals, bells, chimes, trumpets and whistles accessed by buttons and keys was played by Dwight. And that probably is not all of the sounds!!
As Dwight began playing, the organ came up out of the floor, turning in a circle
until he was on the platform floor about five feet above our floor
. We had front row seats and loved it!! It was unbelievable how he could play, and we loved watching his feet as well as his hands!
I kept a list of some of the songs that he played with the sound effects for some of them!!
Bicycle Built For Two, Unchanged Melodies, How Great Thou Art, Chattanooga Chu-chu,Phantom of the Opera, Old Cape Cod, West Virginia, Mountaintop Tennessee, New York New York, When the Saints Go Marching In, Caissons Go Rolling Along and Glen Miller's In The Mood. Forgive me if I made mistakes on any of these titles!
You get the picture and sound, I am sure! We would like to go again and the food was great also. So we will see if we get close enough before we leave Florida.
We still have more lined up to do before we leave to go back home for my follow-up exams for a few days. But we have to keep busy as it is too-o-o cold to enjoy just sitting around! I know that snow is melting up north, but they are not forecasting any warmer temps here before we leave!!
So keep an eye out for us and we hope to see you soon!
Stay warm and safe!!
