JANUARY 20 - BACK IN FLORIDA!

Of course we were hoping for warmer weather! Sometimes it is and sometimes not! The nights, especially, are colder and days are good for jacket wear. Except today, I have been running in shirt sleeves back and forth to the laundry. I love it when the laundry is close and neat!
First things out of the way were my annual mammogram and the visit with my new oncologist. Reports were all very good, so glad to move on for another year.
We then got back into Olive Baptist Church here and with our SS Class that we enjoy so much. We went out to eat at Cheddar's with 8 from our class after church. Love the fellowship and comraderie! We called one of the couples, Dennis and Joanne,

and met up with them at Steak & Shake for a good visit after one of my appointments. Dennis gets such a kick out of trying to make us true southerners! They have a small boat and love fishing here in the Black Water River. They also love going on cruises. So we soak it all in!
The following Sunday 11 of us went to Chet's Seafood in Pace and were introduced to Mullet and deep fried Mullet backbones. ???  Don't think that we will order that again, but I saw some good baked Cod that I will try another time. Now Dennis wants us to try cheesy grits and collard greens. I think that I could handle the grits, but know that I do not like the greens.  What's next?  We need to make a date with Lana and Howard also.
I called two other friends in the area and hope to meet with them soon. Karen's husband is in the hospital and seems to have recurring pneumonia, so she is busy with him.She is our former Ohio friend and renter of one of our apartments. And Miki, my brother's neighbor here, was getting ready for a trip to Tallahassee to visit with some of her kids. She will call when she gets back.
We found out yesterday that we are going to miss our Ohio friends, Cecelia and Rudy this time around. We are going the same places that they are through the next few months, but not at the same times. We did have a good visit with them when at Gary's Class '63 luncheon in Salem.
We have three days planned in Disney Wilderness RV Park in February but it now sounds like we will just be getting our feet wet in that few days. Guess we will have to do it again for a much longer stay.
This past Saturday was a beautiful day so we took advantage of that and went to DeFuniak Springs for a Vintage RV and Car Show.

They did a good job of outfitting them for their time period.
Recreational vehicles have come a long way since the 1930's!
There was not much there in the way of vintage cars though. It really was a small show!

We stopped by the Library and saw much history in it.

And they had a conservation tent that was very interesting with samples of lots of wild life as well as plant and tree life. It would be very interesting for the Scouts!
And on to an Art display in a Civic building.

The children were sure enjoying their art class!

And I enjoyed the quilt portion of the display!

A wonderful day out and the drive was relaxing. I-10 was not too busy through here.

We woke one morning to plenty of frost. The good thing here is that it melts off fast!
We have also had condensation inside of our bedroom closet. So we are running the dehumidifier more. If it is not one thing, it is another. Life is interesting.

OUR GRANDSON, RICHARD'S EAGLE COURT OF HONOR

We delayed our trip to warmer Florida to be sure to be present for our grandson, Richard's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. With many family and friends to see yet, it was not difficult to fill the time. However, it was difficult to stay warm at times! We learned the meaning of dressing in layers.

While waiting for Ceremony time, we spent some time in the fellowship hall looking at pictures of Richie's life as scrapbooked by Grandma W. and at Richie's Eagle Project completed for the church.

After the presentation of colors by the boy scouts of Troop 2, Rick Lutsch, Assistant Scout Master, introduced Jeff, the Troop 2 Scout Co-ordinator and Youth Director of the United Methodist Church and Ben, the Asst. Sr. Patrol leader..

Ben had stories to tell of his first introduction to scouting and what affect Richie had on the beginning of his scouting life. It sure sounded like they have a very good relationship.

Then Richie was introduced to talk about his appreciation of all of his scout leaders and what it has meant in his life. I was so pleased with his confidence in speaking.

Richie has tried to slide right into the use of his
proper name, but the scouts still hang on to the nickname.

Mr. Lutsch also told stories of many camping experiences in Richie's life.  His sister, Miranda, was in awe at some of the stories told. I think that she was amazed at his character. He's always been the little brother to her. I am taking the liberty of copying her comments made on Facebook.
"Words cannot express how proud I am of my brother. Today I learned so much and heard people say and share amazing stories about him. He is the most caring, quiet, compassionate, kind person I know. He has accomplished so much already and hasn’t even graduated high school yet. I’m so happy for him. Congratulations again Boo, I love you so so much!"

Mr. Larry Cecil, Scout Master of Troop 2, then took over to give the Charge to the Eagle. In his talk he briefly told of the rough year that the Troop had when loosing fellow scouts in an accident when kayaking, and about Richie's feelings involved when he was told that his Eagle Award had been approved. I don't think there were many dry eyes. His talk then lightened the mood when sharing Richie's life, before presenting his mom with the Eagle ribbon to be pinned on Richie's shirt. Of course, then Mom and Dad were presented with their Eagle pins as well.

The event then moved to the fellowship hall, after all of the congratulating handshakes and hugs, for sandwiches and cake.  Richie's aunt Barbara cut and served the cake for him. Thank you Aunt Barbara! And a wonderful time of fellowship followed. It was a great day.
Toward the end Mrs. Vadino stopped in to congratualte Richie. I was so glad for the few minutes to visit with her.

The weather held out as good as could be expected for that time of winter.  Only a little sleet rain/snow.

Our visit in Ohio is rapidly coming to an end. Since we know there is more severe winter weather ahead, we will be anxious to head south on Monday, January 18th.

Since Richie loves Chinese Buffet, we went to dinner on Sunday after church at the Royal Grill Buffet in Boardman to visit one last time and to say our goodbyes until May when we will return for graduation.
