Ready to Roll

Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

ANOTHER WEEK IN THE LIFE OF A FULL TIMER !

BARTOW  and MULBERRY FLORIDA
March 5th, Saturday
Our past week has been one of disappointments and $$$ out of the pocket. We had hoped that we would have the motor home in the garage for maybe three days, not! It will be more than a week. Had we realized that we would have looked for some place to rent for the month. It sure would have been cheaper than the Best Western at Mulberry even if we had only stayed in it for a week. We'll be smarter the next time, but hopefully there will not be a next time!! The rates everywhere are so much higher now because of the Plant City Strawberry Festival which began last week. (We really don't want to get into that traffic crunch or we would go for the entertainment which everyone tells us is pretty good.)
We will have to tell Sheryl at Quaker Tax to just deposit our refund at the garage!!
I can't much more than begin to tell you what was wrong, but Gary can explain it when he sees each of you. It began with the chassis air conditioner compressor, and the condenser is what it ending it. We are waiting for the condenser to come in. As usual, plans are always made of Jello and can be changed!
In the mean time we did a little driving around Bartow checking out the town. No reason to shop any, but we did go back to the garage to get more clothes and the little food from the fridge that we could make use of.
We also did laundry at Good Life Resort where we are paying for a lot for the month. We met a couple staying there overnight on their way back to their home in New Jersey. They are hoping to make a trip across country next summer in their motor home. So they were picking our brains for info. And Gary stopped to take the rack for the scooter from the back of the car and to let our neighbors know that we would be back, hopefully soon.
Saturday began with big plans to go into Bartow for their Bloomin' Arts Festival. It included a good car show as well. We enjoyed the art as usual and we met a couple awesome artists. And of course, Gary enjoys talking with them. One was, Daniel, a Florida Highwayman/ landscape/ wildlife artist, a son of Robert Butler. He has spent the last thirty four years as an artist.
The other was a pencil illustrator, Tony Moore, from Tampa who had some drawings of B.B.King that were very, very pricey. Well worth it in talent! At first we were not able to find him on the Internet, so Gary stopped back at his booth on Sunday to make sure of his name. He then told Gary how to find him on the Internet. This picture is from another Art Festival that he was in.

Two other's let me take pictures of them at work. Nikos Alexiades who draws on granite and wood

and another gentleman who does water colors. He had a little girl who stopped to talk with him about her love for art classes that she takes. She was too shy to let me get her in the picture though.

The car show was the usual with a lot of Corvettes and Mustangs also.
Gary took this picture for his friend, Dick, who loves the rat rods!

He also took this picture for his friend, Rick, and told me to tell him that it was a turquoise green!

Gary also found out that Bartow has an Art Guild that he would love to get involved in. Maybe when we settle near here for our winters.

We took time to run past the church that we attended last Sunday since we did not get to actually see the church building and sanctuary.
They meet in their all-purpose building because of structure and mold issues in this building. What a shame!!  Hopefully, they can get it resolved in such a way that is financially feasible for them now. It will be very expensive either way, but one is much more possible for now. They are under a lot of stress because of it. We will continue to attend there this month while in this area. The SS Class was very friendly, almost overwhelming.
When we stopped by the garage to get some things, they still had this Flxible motor home in front of the garage. I would love to see the inside.
That is all for this week. Wonder what we might get into for the next week. Stay tuned.
