Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

KEEPING BUSY IN MESA, AZ

Don't know if I have mentioned this before or not.  After our first two weeks here and on our work camping jobs, we decided to quit.  The job just was not for us.  Everyone was then asking what we were going to do, and they were told we would just pay rent!  And the rent usually is much higher here than in other parks that we visit, but the gentleman who hired us made sure that we got the fall discount.  So that brought it into the range that we usually pay.  We will have to apply for winter of 2015-2016 for a job more to our liking, and need to do that early.
Our friends from Ohio (a scout leader friend of Gary's and his wife, Bill and Esther) are here and working in a new Cafe' that Cal-Am owns.  It is a struggle for Esther as they have her learning the cash register which is not her type of work.  So hope that it works out for them in the long run.
We have had some doctor appointments and are getting into the activities here in the park now as they have begun for the season.  Population is very minimal before November and even then is still not to capacity until January 2nd.  So they do not get into full swing with entertainment and all until January.
Gary has gotten into a genealogy group here in the park and also goes and works at the LDS Library here in Mesa.  They are most helpful and he loves working with them.  We both joined the computer club so that Gary can work on the computers in the park for genealogy and I can get help with our computer problems.  Gary also joined Wood carving and is also making a car for the pinewood derby in March.  The pencil art class that he started three years ago will not begin sessions until January.
I have gotten into my usual scrapbooking twice a week for eight hours total.  We've already had a day out to the Scrapbooking Barn to spend money and work with their die cuts.  I also joined TOPS and am thinking about water aerobics.  But need a new swimming suit first.
We get together about every week with Bill and Jane, our other Salem friends to play cards.  And we go to Bingo here in the park almost weekly.  We want to get them acquainted with Bill and Esther, but had to wait for Bill and Esther's friends to go back to Ohio.
Gary and I went to a class that gave out coupons and an offer for a bus trip to Laughlin, NV.  It was too good to pass up so we will be going December 1st thru the 4th.
We have already had the Thanksgiving Dinner here in the park last Tuesday.

Awesome decorations!!

So delicious!!  We went to the ELKS in the area for our actual Thanksgiving Day dinner this week.

I got out of having to make dinner here.  Yipee!!  Sorry Kathy and Kevin that you will be back home by then.
Wednesday evening we went to Organ Stop for pizza with Bill, Esther, Kathy and Kevin also. Was a fun evening and pizza was a treat for us.  As I said hope that we do not begin putting on the pounds.

Gary and I have two computers going here in the motorhome!!  Since he got started on the genealogy research, he has the computer most of the time.  So I decided that after I finished writing out our Christmas cards and wrapping gifts to send home soon, I would get the old computer back out.  I can e-mail and type on it, but can not access my photos.  So will drop the photos in later.
A gentleman who runs the computer club here in the park is going to take a look at my problem on Monday.  Hope he can shed some light on the problem, or better yet, fix it!!
Gary has been working on the cleaning and waxing of the outside of the motorhome and keeps it looking very nice.  It is quite dusty here so I really need to be doing more in the way of cleaning inside.  I did begin in the back and got the bedroom done and most of the bathroom.  But have not been in any hurry to do the living area.  Will need to do it before I get decorations out for Christmas.
Gary also took the car to have the windows tinted to keep more sun out.  He almost wished that he went a shade darker, but will do as is.  It sure cuts out the glare from the side and back windows, and looks very nice also.
Stay with us and maybe I will get caught up with pictures.
