Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

A TIME FOR VISITORS!!

From Gulf Shores State Park

Our oldest son along with our middle son's boy arrived on Sunday in time to meet us at Lambert's Cafe' (known for their throwed rolls).  It was a long drive for them, total of eighteen hours over a day and a half.  But they were none the worse for wear.  It was great to see them and to know that we have about a week to run around with them.  Not all week is to be good weather, so we will see how much we get done.
We got in a walk that evening at the State Park where we are staying.  We have been trying to do that each afternoon before eating.

At boating dock in the Park.

Definitely not a full timing RV!!

Sunshine was promised for the next day.  So we left for breakfast at Waffle House and then drove on to Pensacola to see the US Naval Air Museum and the Pensacola Lighthouse.  We spent several hours there and after the three guys climbed the 160-plus lighthouse steps, we returned to the motorhome to relax!  It was a fun day and we will go back there, hopefully on Wednesday to see the Blue Angels in practice.

Now on to the lighthouse.....
First lit in 1859 after three years
under construction.
The original lighthouse was built in 1824
to be the first one on the Gulf.

Long day, but we will do more.  Monday evening the rain began and thankfully we had rolled up the awning.  The rain was heavy and winds strong most of the night.  You should have seen the guys stretched out on the floor in the living area!!  WALL to WALL including their bags and electronic gadgets!  We can't complain though as we are getting the tutoring on our new smart phones and all of the one on one with them!!

We finally got the sunshine by late Tuesday afternoon.  But we spent that day doing laundry and relaxing to do what we want. I re-sized all of the pictures and did this Blog, while Gary read and watched TV and the guys were on their computers.  My Blog took longer than usual this time.  It does bring back memories of when I first taught myself to do the Blogs, trial and error.  Way too many errors in those days!!
Take care and God Bless.
