Ready to Roll

Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

KEY WEST, FL

We finally got the pictures back that we took at Key West.  Not too many, but like I said before we will go back sometime.  There was a lot to see, but not enough time.  We opted for the Trolley Tour which took an hour of our five hours there, so we know what we want to go back to see.

Neighbors of ours at Arcadia FL drove over on their own and strongly recommended staying at Key West overnight.  Maybe we will the next time.  This trip we spent our nights at Homestead FL.

When we toured St. Augustine FL a couple years ago, we learned a lot about Flagler's railroad that he built on to Key West.  It was the dream of many wealthy men to have winter homes at Key West (The land of Dreams and Beauty).  It was said that President Truman said he wanted to move the White House to Key West since he liked it so well.

Mr. Flagler did succeed in completing that railroad line which was used for many years, but now all we see of it is the deteriorating tracks and bridges that went through the Keys.

When our bus dropped us off, we then picked up on a Trolley ride for some of the afternoon.

View from Trolly windows.
Our Trolley Tour showed us many things that we want to go back to see, especially the Museums.  After leaving the tour we stopped by the Ernest Hemmingway Home and Museum.

His lifetime span of pictures.

He is said to have been very egotistical.

From that museum we went on walking about town.  This fellow in the park was quite humorous!!  He was good at this and had a young boy from the audience help him out by throwing the batons to him one at a time, without the flames that is.  We had gone to the park to see the sun set, but it was much too cloudy to see any sun!!  Surprise, as we have had many cloudy days here while you are having snow.  At least we did not have rain much on these three days!!

The lighthouse is another thing to go into on a trip back.

Now we return to our normal life here at Red Oaks RV Resort.  Time is flying by, so need to catch you up on our activities.  So check back in real soon.
