Day two of our sight seeing in Louisiana, we headed out northeast of our campground toward the Mississippi River. St. Francisville was quite interesting. We began by stopping at the visitor's center which was in a pre Civil War building. From their we were directed to the oldest part of the historic district, which we found to have many things of interest all within walking distance of each other.
A Methodist Church
A Catholic Church
An Episcopal Church
All pre Civil War era with an extensive cemetery.
Leaving this historic area, we went out of town a bit to see a couple homes that were open for tours.
The grounds and furnished rooms of the Rosedown Plantation were awesome. It was nice to be able to go through all of the rooms.
If I knew how to bring in other pictures that flipped over on their sides when uploaded, and make them right side up, you would get to see more. Sorry, but I really am having difficulties working Blogger with their new changes!!
The Myrtles Plantation house that we saw next was a little disappointing as we were only able to look into two rooms and could only take pictures of the central hall. The rest of the house was a Bed & Breakfast, so was off limits to us. They told a story of ghosts which are supposed to have caused the marking in the mirror in the hall. You can see what they are claiming to be caused by ghosts, as they have had it taken apart and resilvered several times. But it always comes back. Anyway, they told interesting ghost stories.
This is a picture of the mirror which is one of my pictures flipped over!! The marking that you see at the bottom center is what they tell as being caused by the ghost. You also see my reflection while Gary took the picture.Myrtles Plantation house
After these tours we stopped at a local Pizza Restaurant where the police and park rangers were hanging out. We figured that the food must be good, right? And we were correct.
Now back to the motorhome. We really did not see much of the Mississippi River, so did not get any good pictures. We will do that another day for a side trip, but not this year.
I will try to get you another Blog of our stay in Mississippi before we show you what we have done while in Pensacola FL. We arrived in Florida for the purpose of my spending time with my brother while my sister made another trip to Ohio to catch up on some personal things and to see some of her children and grandchildren and friends. I felt she needed a break, but I'm not sure how much of a break it is, as she has sure kept busy. So you can see there is not much break to it!! We will be trading state locations next week since I also have appointments in Ohio.
Come back soon and God Bless!
