Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LUNCH CRUISE on WILLAMETTE RIVER from PORTLAND OREGON

Last Monday we left Mt Hood Resort for Portland. Going through Gresham we passed the transit which runs all along the highway that we travel most. It was the first that I had actually seen the train, usually all we see is people waiting at the stops.
It runs throughout part of Portland. We are thinking that one day we will use it to get around to all of the historic places. We'll see just how much time we have left.
This particular day we went in to see the Art Museum and the History Museum only to find out that they are always closed on Monday.
We did enjoy the designs painted on the exterior of these buildings. A gentleman in one of the lobbies gave us brochures for other things in the city and after checking we decided to head for the river on foot to take a luncheon cruise on the Willamette River. Just enough time to make the walk to get our tickets for the Portland Spirit and ten minutes to spare. Good exercise!!
This is the view of part of the city from the river dock.
More city view from the river while eating a delicious dinner and listening to our pianist as we travel the waterway.
Jet Boat tour that we could have taken, but it looks a little more damp than ours!! Tug and Barge
Here the Railroad runs along beside us between the river and the homes.
Life along the river, if you are fortunate enough!!
And then you have life ON the river!! Enjoy the pictures. I can't imagine this life after a lot of rain with the river rising!! But they are very nice homes!!
On the trip back north, I got to take pictures of the bridges. I can't remember the names except that one is called the Steel Bridge.
There is also a bridge that the transit crosses over into Portland.
After our walk back up hill from the river dock, we took the Jeep and headed out to the Northwest of the city to the Pittock Mansion. I will cover that in the next Blog so stay tuned.
We are finally enjoying more summer. It has been about three weeks of sun now, except under all of the trees at our camp site.
Take care and we hope that you are enjoying your summer also. We see that the temperatures there in the east have finally dropped a little.
