Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

HUNTING ISLAND STATE PARK, SC

I kept thinking that everyone who told us about this beach was saying, "Honey Island"! When we figured out that they were saying, "Hunting", I decided that I wanted to go there on Mother's Day for something to do. And I do love the beach, such a wonder of God's power, watching the ocean! So we went home after SS and Church and packed a lunch to go. It was about 35 miles from us. Then when we got there the cars were lined out on the highway and for as far as we could see into the park. We got in line and when we had not yet reached the entrance gate, we thought about turning back. But we decided when talking to the lady in the gate house, if she said there would not be any doubt about finding parking, we would stay with it. She was sure we would find parking so we continued. However, the beach did not seem over crowded for the amount of cars,so we joined everyone to sit out and watch the fun, enjoying the sun. We ate our lunch under the trees first. It all was great, and we stayed for about three hours. While we enjoyed it and we still were reachable by cell phone! So I heard from all of the boys. Vic questioned about joining us for a week before we return to Salem. I hope that he does. It will be good for us and him. The parking, picnic tables and bathhouse/restrooms were just beyond the tree line over the dunes from the beach. The island has four miles of beach, but we did not walk it this day. We will go out again during the week for the walking.
Gary setting up our chairs, and the view to our right while watching the people and the water.
View to our left. There was a low barrier on this left side to prevent erosion of the beach. I think that it is where the two children are sitting in the center of the photo. I zoomed on this photo to see the condition of the beach farther down on this side of us.
Upon leaving we thought that we would go on to Fripp Island which was at the end of the highway only to find that it is private property! So without a realtor's or guest pass, we ere unable to drive around to check it out. Darn!
But we had enjoyed the afternoon and now headed back home. We had passed a Walmart, so we did stop there for a couple things in the food department and to look for some tops that I have been looking for ever since we left St. Augustine. I bought one before and tried it, only to find that they were not in all of the stores. I had checked five stores since leaving St. Augustine before I found them here. So that finished my day on a good note, as if I need more clothes. But I'm happy. And Gary will tell you that is what it is all about, Being Happy! Just ask him or our friends in South Carolina and they will agree also!! See you again soon! Take care.
