Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

FLORIDA's RED BARN & THE OAKS RV RESORT RECREATION

We are never at a loss for entertainment here at the RV Park. There are often two or three nights a month of outside entertainment that they hire. And then there are things going on within the park that residents participate in.
Last Friday we had a night with Jimmy Smith from Pigeon Fork, TN who impersonates Elvis . I really think that he could do his own style and get a good crowd. I thought that part of his show would be his own style, but he did Elvis the whole show. He was good and got plenty of cheers for his gyrations . Gary even learned to use the video setting on his camera, but I have not learned how to get it into the Blog. So I will have to work more on that!
This is the lady here at The Oaks who plans these events and we are glad that she has good taste. We have enjoyed them all. She got one of Jimmy's scarves!
Jimmy was introduced by a ventriloquist, and his dummy, Alex as part of the evening's entertainment. It was a good show and it filled in for another entertainer who could not show as planned.
The following Tuesday they had Rocky and the Rollers who played and sang 50's and 60's music. They like many of the groups, had their share of fun and antics . However, I missed the picture of the base player on the floor with his base fiddle in the air! They were quite good and played for dancing as well as listening enjoyment. There were a lot who enjoyed the dancing . Our new friends, Cheryl and Gordon, from here in Red Barn were no exception. Cheryl even did the fast dances. But Gary and I know our limitations and just did the foot tapping and sing-a-longs. Cheryl and Gordon are from Michigan, near Grand Rapids and have wintered here for several years.
Then last evening we decided to check out a Jam Session here in the park where many got out their guitars and singing voices to entertain and enjoy . The musicians included banjos, drums, keyboard, sax and even one lady miming to a tape. She was funny playing the part of both the male and the female singers . And with all of the volunteers singing and playing, we were there for almost three hours. So there is never a shortage of things to do here, even movies.
In fact, Gary was at a Craft Show here today doing his drawing with the hope of getting more interest within the park for his type of art work. They do have a Wood Carvers group and a beginners class for painting occasionally. There is quilting also!
One of these days we will get out and do more sight seeing hopefully before we start north. Take care.
