OHIO/OREGON FRIENDS VISIT in OREGON

Last Sunday Richard and Linda came to spend a couple days with us in Mt. Hood Village Resort. We really looked forward to their visit to catch up on news and enjoy some time together!! Richard had pastored at First Friends Church in Salem Ohio when both their daughters and our sons were all in Salem schools. Many things have taken place since those days and we have rekindled the friendship since we have been out on the road traveling as well as our vacation here in Portland in 2005, when Gary and I visited my sister and brother-in-law.

We had a great time picnicking and playing games along with the visiting!! They even taught us a new game, which we must go out and buy so that we can become more proficient at it. We never know, along the road, when someone else will want to play it. On Monday we decided a walk was in order, so we took the trail from our park to Wildwood Recreation Site next door.

After much meandering through the forest here, we finally came to the Salmon River

where we could see the animal life under the water through a window below stream water level.

Heading back to our park we decided to make one more stop to check out the view from the bridge up stream

It was fun checking out the animal and plant life along the way.

Gary and I knew that this trail was near, but had not taken the time to travel it. So glad that we took the time now with Richard and Linda!!

Back in our park we spend a little time with their dachshunds in their Lazy Days motorhome before bidding our farewells. They were getting ready to travel on into Washington for a Rally with other Lazy Days owners. That is always fun as you never know who you might meet or what kind of fun the group committee might have planned.

On Saturday before Richard and Linda arrived we had a visit from Bob and Donna, friends from Salem OH who had progressed from John Day Dam on the Columbia River in to Portland. When we get pictures from that day I will post them on another Blog. It was a busy week, but oh so wonderful!! We hope that you all are having dry weather and enjoying it!! Too much rain here to our liking. And safe travels to all who are on the road!! Take care.

ACTIVITIES AT MT. HOOD RESORT AND AT SANDY BAPTIST CHURCH

July 2nd we finally checked out the activities here in the park which included music with Charles Suniga and his friend on clarinet and sax. Young and old alike sang and danced along!! Even the dog got into the act!! After that, on Sunday we attended their outdoor service and picnic afterward. It was nice and the rain held off for us!! We sat with a two other couples from the church who we had not had opportunity to meet before and really enjoyed visiting with them. Jim and Karen were having a garage sale the following weekend so we went out to their house to check it out. Not much for a full time motorhome, but we did sit down and visit for a while again. They are very nice and we sure enjoyed the visit. The other couple, Holly and Doug, were also interesting to visit with. Doug is sure that come retirement time he will be ready to head south for the winter, however Holly is not so keen on the idea. She likes her four seasons and the green of Oregon. I should have told her that this life style is not for everyone. Sometimes we are so sold on it that we forget it is not for all. I remember our first visit with Harold & Judy and Bill & Bette from Ohio, who we met back in 2007. Harold's first question for us was if we had any hobbies. He maintained that the people who do not succeed with full timing are often those who do not have something to fill their time when not out sight seeing or driving down the road. I still like my quiet home life at times!! On to July 4th!! We planned on a pot luck picnic for the fellow workampers here in the park. However, since some of them still had to work and others left the park for picnics, there were only four of us couples for the day. But it was a great day of fellowship!! And we made new friends to boot!!

Now we just need to do it again, if it ever quits raining!!

Friday night Hawaiian Days Karaoke came along and we watched the youngsters sing along! I did not stay too long for that as I was not interested in the wording of many of the songs that they tried to sing. They had fun though.
