Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

GARY in AN ART SHOW at MERRICK ART GALLERY in NEW BRIGHTON, PA

Changed format for Blogger and what a pain for me!!  I just hate CHANGE.  Guess that is a sign of advancing AGE!
But I will try to write another Blog and hope that any changes that I made to the previous Blog did not make a mess!!
We pray that you are all having a decent summer with masks and restrictions.  But most of all that you are well and safe!!
We have had a couple feasts with family here in Ohio. We have also been to do laundry and visit with our oldest son, Victor, in our condo in Boardman.  He is working from home so probably bored!!  I know that he is in a lot of pain from his sciatic!  I think that he was hoping to get back to the office site a week ago, but they have decided to extend the "work at home" for a while yet.
Gary was concerned that his scheduled Art Show in New Brighton, PA. at Merrick Art Gallery was going to be cancelled or at least postponed.  However, it continued as planned July 26th and will continue to August 14th.
Gary!!  Of course, he does not smile!

Gary's Art biography
The paintings on the outer walls are European Art
from the 17-1800's  (Merrick's personal collection).
The Art Museum is quite interesting!!
Gary's art is on free standing display walls in the
center of just one room in the museum.
This seemed to be one of the favorites.
Gary with a high school classmate, Elaine.
There were several people from the Gallery who checked out his work also.
We left when the day's show was over and decided to go with Elaine and check out a local Pub for a bite to eat as we had not had anything since breakfast.  Friend, Bill, made the recommendation and it was great!!  Thanks Bill!!
Gary should have shown some of
his large classic car drawings!

This seemed to be one of the favorites as we listened
to comments.

Gary and Bill spent many years working
with Boy Scouts in Salem.

The top right drawing of a
hummingbird is one of
my favorites.

for the top drawing at a Show in
Desoto Art Center in Arcadia, Florida

This bottom drawing was used on the
postcards for publication.

Gary was told in 2018 in a gallery in Punta Gorda that his western work was not as sale-able in the Florida area.  So that is when he began more work with birds, sand and ocean shores.

I wish that my pictures could really do his artwork justice!!  But you get the idea.  In his lifetime he has done graphite drawings, colored pencil,  water color paintings and oil paintings, as well as wood carvings. Most of his pencil art work is over the past twenty years at the most.  I do think that he has found his nitch!!

He also was written up in The Times of Beaver Valley :

NEW BRIGHTON -- The colored pencil art of Gary Wyatt is showcased in a new solo exhibition running through Aug. 16 at the Merrick Art Gallery.
Wyatt pieces like “Cowboy’s Journey,” with a lone cowboy working in his field, “Brown Pelican 2020,” with a waterbird in flight, and the meditative “Girl in Blue” are rich in detail, and relaxing.
Wyatt has specialized in color pencil creations for 20 years. He had his art featured late last winter in an exhibition in Florida.
The eastern Ohio artist, now retired and traveling full-time in an RV with his wife Audrey, attended a small opening at the Merrick, in New Brighton, this past Sunday.
“I consider myself a professional artist because of entering many competitive art shows in the past few years, and belonging to several artist groups in Florida and Ohio,” he said.
“I have developed a system using colored pencil that I call painting with colored pencil. I use Prismacolor pencils that are wax-based pencils that are easy to blend,” Wyatt said.
By burnishing and blending the colored pencils starting with white and building the hue as he goes, he creates what looks like a painting with acrylic.
“I have been asked if my work is a painting, and by that I am pleased with what I have accomplished,” he said.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Merrick has modified its hours to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and all other hours by appointment.
Admission is free.
Wyatt also will have several pieces in the Merrick’s next show, “Merrick Masters,” a mixed media juried presentation opening Aug. 23 and running through Sept. 20.

MORE SUMMER 2020 in OHIO

Gary went to Men of Faith this morning at Dutch Haus in Columbiana so I decided to sit  at the computer with my music CD's on and try writing a Blog.  We have not kept very busy except to read.  Gary has washed down much of the outside of the motorhome, but I sure have been lazy!!
We have been working through our doctor and dentist appointments as our main focus.
Friday, July 3rd , we spent the morning at the Hartville Flea Market.  We only spent $2 but did have a good look around before it got too hot out.
We have since stopped at a couple yard sales.  One was in Boardman and it was a good thing that I had Gary turn around as I got a real find of card making rubber stamps!!  It was well worth the stop!!
Gary has had breakfast with his best friend and I have been able to begin meeting with TOPS friends again with masks and social distancing.  So after the weigh-ins, we move on to Centennial Park to visit.
On July 9, we met with RVing friends, Ralph and Gayle for lunch in Newton Falls.  They did not get to leave Ohio this past winter because of illnesses so it was good catch-up time for us.

We also got to spend an evening with church friends, Randy and Patti at out motorhome.  Patti is going to make seat and arm covers for the motorhome driver and passenger seats.  We need to prevent any more wear and tear on the originals.  We are seeing more wear on this bus!!

We made a trip to Merrick Gallery at New Brighton PA to see what is going on with the Gallery's plans for the summer Art Show.  Gary got confirmation that they will set up July 22nd for the month long show beginning July 26th.
He then got busy at the condo getting his drawings ready (framed and labeled) for the show.  He will have 36 drawings in the show.  He is so pleased that this is finally happening for him!!  He had wondered if it would even happen, but it was always his dream!
Yesterday we went to Richard and Lynn's for burgers and dogs.  Had a good visit, but much too short.  We just don't do evenings out.  But Rich and Richie have to sleep all day as they are working nights.  We don't want to drive after dark.  Are we getting older or what??
On the way there we stopped at a new Used Furniture store in Salem and a Thrift shop at the Methodist Church in Columbiana.  I was impressed with my few finds at the Thrift!  And we educated the gal at the Furniture Store as she did not know what a Barrister's Bookcase was!  That is the only thing that we are still looking for, for the condo.  Maybe one day soon we'll find one!
Gary is back and drawing, so guess I had best draw to a close and fix lunch.  You all take care!!
