Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

NOVEMBER in MESA, ARIZONA

I think of things to begin the Blog with, but when I get the computer, I can't remember!!!
Our computer was in the Best Buy Geek Squad workshop for nearly a week. We started with a printer problem, so bought a new printer. But that did not fix the problem as we kept getting warning messages. Come to find out that our hard drive was bad. So the cost of a printer and hard drive later and we are now up and running. Hate those unexpected expenses!!
Friday, November 10th, our resort had a Veteran's Lunch. Great Lunch and awesome program. Many tears that day.

Note copyright info at bottom!
Saturday, November 11th, Gary had planned to go see a Veteran's Monument north of Phoenix, but changed plans and went to our church Fall Festival dinner instead.  The turkey dinner was furnished and all we had to do was take a pie. Had a wonderful time!!
Had way too many pies, some were not even opened.

New snowbird friends, Linda and Curtis
Loved the table decorations.

The church's original pastor's wife, visiting with her friends!!
Our present Pastor's children enjoying the games:

The kitchen crew who did a wonderful Job in their newly decorated kitchen!!

Our friend, Betty, talking with her crew.
Pastor, David Swope
can be very entertaining!

Fill-in SS teacher, pastor, and
our song leader, Tom Bauder

I love it when Tom gives us a background on a song writer, composer of any song that we sing! We really feel like this is a home church. We often run in to church people at Red Mountain Cafe' after church. It is a very busy spot!! Victor, remember their maple rolls? Dad just had to get one to take home!!
Gary likes Breakfast on Saturday mornings at sister park, Sunlife, on our street. I went the first time, but usually it is earlier than I want to get up.

We found this in the parking lot that first Saturday -
We've had our first Block party here at Mesa Regal and enjoyed that. There were only about twenty of us there, but a nice amount to visit and learn a little about each. We have wonderful neighbors on both sides of us and across. The ones directly across from us are from just north of Minneapolis, MN and just arrived for the winter here two days ago.  They have kids and grandkids just a couple miles from here so will enjoy their winter with all of the kids activities.
I do miss our family, but we sure do not miss the cold weather. A forty degree night here is miserable. Today looks like will be a very nice day. It began cool, but the sun is out nice and bright.
Gary is keeping busy with his wood carving, genealogy workshop, and much pencil drawing both at workshop and here at home. The genealogy group went to the LDS library this week. So he enjoys all new methods of research that he learns.
I keep busy with scrap booking, but need to get busy with the Cricut here at home to do labeling and the computer to do more journaling. I have two very heavy books about finished. So need to  say finished and quit carrying them back and forth to workshop!! I have missed the computer, but have been reading too much to get back at the computer. I need to change focus.
We stopped in at Sunshine Acres children's home, but decided to go back another time when we can go on their tour. We always love to hear about any changes that they make since our last visit.

We went through their Thrift Shop,
but found it changed a lot - -
now it seems more like small boutiques!
We were going to see Ohio friends, Bill and Jane, last Saturday, but they ended up having to work. So will have to connect with them another day. Had to miss their patio sales. They are a little more south of Phoenix, where we are directly east of Phoenix. We are anxious to see their park.
With the change of plans, Gary found a car show of the Good Guys in Scottsdale to go to instead.  He always enjoys that. Notice the mountains in the background!

Some camper!!

And I found some time to go shopping!! There has been a K-Mart closing sale for weeks, so I just had to buy clothes. Like I needed them!!
We have a Thanksgiving Dinner this afternoon here in the Resort, and will go to the American Legion over in Apache Junction for dinner on Thursday. Otherwise, it will be just like any other day.  No leftovers though since I will not be cooking here at home.  I did buy our favorite pies though!!
We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!!  God Bless you all!!
