Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

OHIO Fall Clean-Up and Scrapbooking with Friends !!

October 24, 1964 - forty six years ago today, we had sunshine but strong wind as we stood on the front steps of the church!! Yes, Happy Anniversary to us!!
No celebration today though. Today we hurried home from church to help clean up leaves from the yard. The most that I could do was use the camera!!
Victor and Ben were nearing the end of twenty-one bags of leaves for pick-up.
Gary helped them finish for the day.
But as you can see from these last few pictures, there are many more leaves still to come down.
Now that is a little different than forty-six years ago. I will always remember that on the 24th, we were about two weeks late from prime picture taking for beauty of color.
I do believe that the color has lasted much longer than usual this fall. I have taken some pictures, but not enough. It is so easy to see the potential picture as you drive down the road, but much more difficult to find a place to stop to take that picture!! But then Gary is never good at stopping at a moments notice and I am not permitted to drive yet. I will be going to visit the surgeon tomorrow and hope to be released to drive??
I did get in some good scrap booking time at church last week with our friendly scrap booking group!!
They were all working on a special project presented by Debbie McKinney. It was quite a lovely project and will continue for a couple more sessions to be properly completed.
I worked on my albums while they worked away, and was glad to get more accomplished also. I have more negatives that Victor gave me that I will need to get printed for his album. I think that I will always be finding pictures!!!!!!!! I am waiting for a good sale price at Walgreen though. I hope there is one in the next couple weeks before we leave, so that I can work on the albums while we are on the road.
A special Thanks to Leah from our scrapbooking group who worked one night shift while I was in the hospital. She sure does a wonderful job of tucking you in for the night!!
Yes, I did get a good report from the surgeon and we are planning to leave about November 8th. Just hope that we do not run into SNOW anywhere!!!
Take care and God Bless!! We sure are praising the Lord for our good reports!!

OHIO, Scrapbooking going to the Dogs? Boy Scouts and Car Show

No! The dog came to scrapbooking! Isn't she cute? She about tripped me up a couple times, so I decided that I had better sit down and stay put!! I sure did not need another fall. Mary Lou brought her new puppy for all to enjoy. We had a total of eleven of our group out last Friday for hours of work and fun. I was glad to have completed so much more on my books. I am prepared for another evening to work on Monday and hope to finish the works underway. I have plenty of photos copied to move on with, for more of 1987 that I am doing in each of my son's memory books. I sometimes wonder if I will ever get them done!! Saturday Gary and I went out for sausage and pancakes at a grange for the Winona Ruritans fund raiser. Then we went on to rummage sales and a couple of garage sales. I got a shopping bag full of paperbacks to keep me busy also. At $5, not a bad bargain (maybe 10 to 15 cents a piece). Oh yeah, and on then to Joann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby. I am still looking for material to have drapes made for the living area of our "home". But in this process and again today on the way home from Church, we got to enjoy fall Foliage at it's finest. It is so bright and colorful that my pictures do not do it justice!! We are to have a few more warm days without rain, but I imagine that they will fall fast after that. It sure is a season that could be enjoyed much longer if it would just stay warm longer. But I guess, all good things must come to an end. That is what I told the lady who runs the restaurant at the campground when she asked if we were leaving. We worked all day Thursday to get everything scrubbed up and put away in preparation to move out on Friday. We have stored the motorhome at an RV dealer's lot for the time being, until I know what will be needed to follow-up on my health problems. We are staying in with two of our sons for the time being. Hope it will not be for too long a time as we sure are anxious to move on southwest!! Last weekend our other son and our grandson went camping with the rest of the Boy Scouts. They did have a nice weekend also!! Thank goodness!! It is never fun camping in the rain, nor cleaning up after!!

And a week before leaving the campground we visited with neighbors there, Micky and Sandy.
We met them last summer and also visited them in Melbourne FL during the winter. They are getting ready to go back to their FL home very soon. Safe travels to you!!
Gary also met up with his friend Rick to check out the car show that they have in North Georgetown once a month. They had 130 entries!! It is hard to imagine that there was enough parking space in the little crossroads burg of NG for that many vehicles!! But it seems to be well attended.
Ah, Rick, does that bring back memories???
This coming week will be busy for us as I have a couple appointments for medical care for me. So keep us in your prayers!! I am praying that the procedure will be the easiest possible, and that the results will be good!!! Gary also needs your prayers to stay calm. We will keep you posted regarding the outcome.
Take care and God Bless!!
